What is Jesus teaching us…

A quick story.

Some years ago I was sitting with the pastors in the Doxology Collegium, and we were discussing an essay by Pr Tyler Arnold about pastoral care to those who have lost their memory. (Click here for the article: Slowly Dying Inside: Pastoral Care for Those with Dementia/Alzheimer’s.)

Dr. John Kleinig was with us, and in his usual penetrating way, set the conversation straight with one question. “We need to ask,” he said, “what is Jesus teaching us by handing so many people over to Alzheimer’s?”

We might not know the right answers, but that, my friends, is the right question.

Jesus is risen. Jesus is ascended. Jesus sits at the Father’s right hand. Jesus gives and Jesus takes away. Jesus rules and reigns through all things for the sake of His body, the church.

So, I’d like to ask this question again. Not about Alzheimers, but about COVID-19:

What is Jesus teaching us through this pandemic? What is the Lord doing with us through this trouble?

I would love to hear your thoughts.
